Parkinson’s disease is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disease affecting over 10 million people worldwide. Its cardinal motor symptoms include resting tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity, and postural instability, in humans and animals. High-voltage spindles (HVSs) are observed in the local field potentials of the cortico-basal ganglia network after dopamine depletion in 6-OHDA lesioned parkinsonian rats. They are considered to be associated with parkinsonian motor deficits such as hypokinesia and resting tremor, in rats. HVSs are non-stationary, spike-and-wave oscillations with the time-varying spectrum in the 5–13 Hz band. Detecting the early-onset of HVS with minimal computations is critical to implement the low-power, neuroprosthetics. The model-based offline- and online-learning algorithms detect the HVSs with improved performance, lower latency, and less computation, compared to the conventional methods such as Fourier transform and wavelet transform. They are applicable as smart neurostimulators in the adaptive deep brain stimulation system for treating the parkinsonian motor deficits by stimulating the target brain region only on the occurrence of HVSs

A cloud-enabled big data analytic platform is the best way to analyze the structured and unstructured data generated from healthcare management systems. In this talk, the correlation analysis of those collected data and a stochastic prediction model will be discussed to foresee the future health condition of the most correlated patients based on their current health status.
